The Kumano Kodo Trail

Join us for a 6-day walk along the11th century Kumano Kodo pilgrim’s trail through rural Japan to the three grand shrines of Kumano, staying overnight in traditional Japanese minshuku and ryokan.

  • This 6-day walking tour involves walking on both paved village paths and unpaved forest trails. It is more strenuous and includes full days of walking and 1,000 m / 3,000 ft of ascent, though shorter options are available on the itinerary. This is a highly rewarding hike through the beautiful villages and mountains of the Kii Peninsula, requiring good levels of fitness.

  • Level 2-3: This trip can be moderate to challenging based on selected daily walking distance.
